I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love.

For me they are the role model for being alive.

The Berner Report: November 30, 2010

Dorothea, Alf's mom, and I have tried, on numerous occasions, to catch up with each other. We were finally successful last night!

We miss Alf terribly and each morning I look in my mailbox, hoping for an update on Alf. This morning my wish came true.

Alf is doing great! He's adjusted, wonderfully, to life in civilization. He has a growing fan club, both canine and human.

Most importantly Alf loves and is loved by his family, more and more each day! He and his sister, Sophie, are inseparable.

coming

and going

like they're attached at the hip.

Sophie seems to know that Alf is "speshul" and makes allowances his quirks and anxieties. She IS the angel she portrayed on Halloween!

Alf tried on a few costumes before deciding which suited him best.

The wig wasn't working for him

He looked dapper in the hat!

But, Sophie rocked the hat-look, too!

Finally, he chose the pirate-look

Once a rebel, always a rebel!

Alf and Sophie greeted trick-or-treaters at the door. I'm thrilled to death (and not surprised) that Alf loves kids!

As much as we miss Alf, I am pretty sure he never would have made the adjustment to civilized dog in Dirtville. Dorothea and her family have provided a life of opportunities for Alf that I simply could not, living in dirtville.

Last night, we spoke, for about an hour. Dorothea told me many stories of Alf's adjustments and escapades.

Alf still suffers from anxiety if left for extended periods, so he has a dog sitter come in when he's left for longer than hour.

No kenneling for Alf, he still can't deal!

Remember how much work it took to get him in the car? Now, there's nothing he likes better than going for a ride!

Dorothea wrote, "...It was great talking with you tonight. Here are a few pictures as promised. Alphy is the sweetest little boy, Sophie truly loves him. Poor Alphy has to put up with a lot...
Just cannot thank you enough for our sweet little boy."

As always, my heart overflows with gratitude to Alf's family for opening their hearts and home to this special dog.

If you're a new visitor to our blog, The Berner (now known as Alphonso Bernard Jacob Scout Billy Bob Berner)was a semi-feral dog trying to survive in the Mohave Desert.

Through the Pawer of the Paw Alf has a family of his own, He's living, well-loved and happily ever after, in sunny SoCal.

The Berner's story can be read in the posts listed below, in chronological order. If you don't have time, now, Alf's story can be read, at your leisure, by clicking his picture on my side bar.

I love happy endings. I've taken in countless strays through the years and either found their homes or found new homes (or kept a few). But I have never had a challenge of a semi-feral dog. How rewarding for you.

We just love a happy ending. Thanks to you and your efforts, Alf has the 'happy ever after'.

He makes a great pirate!

What a GREAT POST to read. And this is all because of you.. all because you took a shot at this dog and saved his life.

Maybe his momma can try some Melatonin for the separation anxiety?

K9K, Sophie's a wonderful big sister, too!

Alien, Stumpy can run for office if she can come love withyou. I don't want no politicians living here!

Wizz, I REALLY can't take too much credit for Alf's journey. i was just in the right place at the right time.

Heeler's, Stumpy is like the reds. Alf, however, was only afraid of the beans. He's willing to try anything!

Elyse, He and Sophie make a great team, don't they?

Sam, All because Alf was willing...

It is so amazing how wonderfully this all worked out. And for a semi feral anybody to become a fashionista! (or is it fashionisto?)

Thanks for stopping in to check on me. Going slow, but I am breathing better.

Oh wow! I love Alf's updates (OK, still Billy Bob Berner to us!). Stumpy and you need a round of applause for Alf's life as he knows it now.

And anyone who has a sister named Sophie can't have a bad life at all (I bet Mr. Gus would trade his sister Sophie for Alf's sister Sophie!).

Cyndi, I love these updates. I want to scratch Stumpy's ears and belly and add an extra treat to dinner tonite!
Thank you for sharing, both the trials and the success!

Callie has "many" shortcuts, through out the house/yard, she uses to keep ahead of the boys. The top of the cage is where shoes end up after Callie does a drive-by ........
