I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love.

For me they are the role model for being alive.

The Weekly Berner Report: June 5 - June 12

Not much to report, here. I feel bad leaving Stumpy and Fenway in their kennels inside, to work with the Berner outside during the only part of the day we can be outside playing or walking. Add vehicle shopping to that and it's either too dark or too hot to do much of anything.

Alf didn't do so well in an extended (4 hours) in the kennel. I thought I would only be gone for a couple hours, car shopping. when I got home he was covered in slobber, had moved the kennel about 4 feet and chewed part of the cheapo plastic tray that came with the kennel.

There doesn't seem to be any residual effects from his anxiety. He's perfectly happy to go in and out of his kennel and rest there, too.
He's been doing so well, I'm sure we'll get this down.

He learned he better hang onto his bone for dear life or Fenway would snag it at the first opportunity. And hang onto it he did! For a VERY long time!

But there is big news
...
drum roll, please...

Please notice Stumpy in the back seat encouraging alf. NO!!! She is not there just hoping he misses a treat! She's absolutely there to provide moral support!

It happened quite by accident.
My son was here, loading Fenway's kennel and stuff in his Explorer. The back door was open and Alf climbed in!

After they left, we tried him in Red, the Trooper. It took a couple of snacks to convince him, but in he went!
And he's looking pretty comfortable!

We'll get him in there a few more times before we take him for a ride. Maybe he'll remember how much he likes to ride.

Especially when we take him to the lake or river for a swim in our new (to me) truck! That's right, folks! I am the proud owner of a vehicle tha't going to take us the hell out of dirtville!

Don't tell Alfy, but it's also going to get him to the vet's for his brain surgery, vaccinations, micro-chipping, and blood work. Then he'll be ready for his new home.

If you are interested in adopting this handsome boy please refer to my sidebar and check out Petfinder's "New Dog Adopter's" Pledge. This is the home Alfy deserves. He will come to you house broken, crate trained, vet checked, neutered, up to date on his vaccinations and micro-chipped. Vet references will be required. A home-check is a possibility. Because of his wander lust a fenced yard is probably necessary. Distance may not be a problem. I'll be traveling east in the not too distant future. I have also had offers for transport help, when the time comes.

I hope this beautiful boy finds a home soon. Could you e-mail me if you'd like me to share this around? It might help...

It's hard to remember how scared he once was.

Pat, I like that thought. It does seem there is a daily triumph going on here!

Khyra, It's another one of those "who rescued who" cases. Stumpy and I are VERY lucky the Berner came to visit!

I'm having a tough time convincing myself i need to sell Red. :(

LWD, THANKS! Email forthcoming, shortly!

Sandra, I know, right? I wish I remembered the camera when I had guests. When he's here he has no fear of people at all.

Wow, how all of you have evolved. You have impressed us all! And a 'new' vehicle on top of it all! The photos of Alf/Berner/BillyBob in the back of vehicle made me look twice - er, three times!

I love your work with both Stumpy and Berner, and I love their work with you. I think we all want to make sure Berner gets the BEST BESTEST home ever, just like yours!

I'm glad that there doesn't seem to be any ill effects from the extended stay in the kennel. Maybe you can try giving him some Melatonin to calm him before you leave? I know of at least one person who has used it for that type of anxiety.

An, big congrats on the big boy getting in to the car!

Ya Stumpy you got him in the truck. That is so great.. We still get in the truck even after the 16 hour ride to Wisconsin. Although it certainly was good times when we arrived...

Brenda, YES!!! A new (to me) vehicle that will take us to the river or lake for swimming, as soon as alf is ready!

Dogsmom, thanks I have literally been stuck in dirtville for over a year. I am sooooo looking forward to going places, again!

WWW, Massachusetts, NH and Maine...it doesn't get much more northeast/east coast than that! Freeze dry those chicken dogs!

Sam, I've gotten a heads up on a few different natural calming remedies, I'll add melatonin to the list. thanks. have you used it with Marge?

heeler's I couldn't have done it without Stumpy. Actually, shhh, don't tell her but she was no help at all!

I can so relate to being "stuck." My van nightmare continues. It has been to mechanic more times than I have been to grocery this month.
Luckily I stocked up on a few weeks worth of pet supplies before being stranded again.

dogsmom, I am full of empathy. I don't pick up the truck until tomorrow and I do have a vehicle I am fairly comfortable, most days, taking 5 miles to the post office, library, and teeny over priced grocery store.
