I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love.

For me they are the role model for being alive.

Stimulating Stumpy #1

Since we returned to dirtville Stumpy is bored, maybe even depressed. Actually, it began when Alf went to live in California. She spends a lot of time sitting out on the deck, gazing up the street, as if watching for Alf to return from his daily jaunt about the neighborhood.

My attempts to amuse and stimulate her are shortlived

This one was good for about 3 minutes

Then she wants back out

to continue her sentry duty

Poor Stumpy :(
You need some neighbor doggies to play with.....or a new foster brother. How do you feel about cats?

I bet it does feel different without Alf/BillyBobBerner around. I miss him and I never got to hang out with him! Stumpy, I'll sit with you and pout for awhile, OK?

Hi Stumpy!! That bone looks tastey. It would distract me for a loooong time. Do you like to play fetch? How about tug tug? Hide and seek? Do you have a bro or sis? Heehee. With one of our doggies that is now at the rainbow bridge mommy would go hide in the goat weed (a type of weed that looks like sparse bushes) and would call out to him. Then he would go lookin for her. She says it was very entertaining. Now days the goat weed aint thick enough to play hide and seek but she will run from the barn to the horse trailer around the house hiding in each one. until we catch her. BWAHAAHAAA!!! Sometimes she will take a treat and give it to us when we catch her. Just some ideas!

The OP Pack thinks Stumpy needs a brother or sister to stimulate him:)

It's clear what Stumpy wants to find under her Christmas Tree! Your home, like ours, is attractively decorated in Early Dog, so you're certainly ready to take one more on board.

Jan, Hard to say what's going through that head...

Khyra, not only am I not as khool as her khanine friends, I'm not as fast, I don't have the stamina, I don't enjoy bitey face...the list goes on and on...

Wyatt and Stanzie, no kitties and some neighbor dogs would be good...best scenariio a doggie brother or sister!

Brenda, I haven't recovered from Alf, either :( I need your email! I can't picture Red Green in Arizona, nevermind in csmopolitan Phoenix area!

K9K, thanks for the suggestions! We actually do all those things, too! It's just never enough!

OP Pack, yes, a brother or sister would be perfect! Now if I can just convince my landlord...

Jed and Abby, I'd love another dog,. I've never been a one dog household, until recently. We're just not stable enough, at this point in our lives (I keep telling myself)

You know, you took Alf to CA, then you went east. This is her first time to realize he is gone. She is a smart dog, so she will wonder for a while.

I think you are missing him as much as she is. You will come to terms together.

Stumpy looks like an action dog like my idiot brother. Momma says sometimes he is tired and doesn't even know it. He has a big exercise ball in the basement that she uses to wear him out, but teaching him new tricks is the best because it exhausts his mentals.

I think you need to get her a hamster. They are good for at least 8 to 10 minutes of interest. Maybe half an hour if you build a good enough tunnel, obstacle course...

(I have nothing against furry rodents. No hate mail, please. My house is over run with mice and I still live here. I went on a rat rescue (still wondering why) but I do think one of their (rodents) purposes is to amuse bigger furry animals.)
