I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love.

For me they are the role model for being alive.

I'm not talking about the new First Dog

According to the search link below there are 17 Portuguese water dogs looking for homes, across the United States and listed on Petfinder. Hopefully, I am mistaken, but if history repeats itself, this number is going to grow in leaps and bounds. Because the breed has a number of breed specific issues (with a limited gene pool) and the dogs are high energy dogs, that need a job, they will end up another disposable status symbol for which America goes gaga.

It’s on the breeders’ shoulders to make sure their puppies are going to responsible homes, not backyard breeders and puppy mills. The breeders are also responsible for educating the public. That's only part of the price one should pay for the privledge of breeding.

Unfortunately, your prediction will probably come true. We can thank Sen. Ted Kennedy for getting this ball rolling. I've never been a fan of his anyway. Hey, thanks for volunteering Stumpy for the breakout (you did check with her first, right??) Tell her to be on standby & if I can get enough recruits, I'll get word to her. Tank

Hi Stumpy
I agree with you. A dog breed has to be more than "hypoallergenic" as a deciding factor and recognize the influence your decision will have on the masses.

I'm glad u liked my easter card-- i didn't care much for the ears.

It will grow. Just wait. There will be BYBers and Puppy Mills that jump on the 'bandwagon'

Glad to see you care for Animals to :-)
Thank you for commenting on my blog
Yet! on a more Positive note:-)

I already have 27 rescues! That I love and care for ! So I do not think By turning My rescue into a larger non profit rescue would Take from other organizations????
And I am associated with people for pets here in Missouri They also have been receiving 15% of my etsy sales :-)
Yet I am Starting to put that extra 15% towards My rescue:-) I have saved a lot of Animals and will continue to:-)
And Gosh I sure wish there really was "plenty" of Animal rescues already "As you stated" But sadly there is not:-)
Peace ;-) Jeannie Wray

I don't think the problem is not enough rescues... I think the problem is the ignorant human beings. They can be found everywhere; the general population, and sadly running rescue operations.

My comment, in no way reflects on you and your generosity. It's just an opinion. If the public was more educated, if more money was spent helping people spay and neuter their animals, if the nasty rescue operations could be "outed" and funding sent to responsible rescues where it was truly used for the purposes for which it was intended, then the world would be a better place for animals.

Truly, Jeannie, the world is a better place with you in it. My opinion regarding more rescues is unchanged.

I don't breed dogs, but I bred horses. The world of abuse for horses is wide. I have owned mostly discarded dogs. People are hard to figure. I know this breed will have problems, as any breed does when it hits the public eye.

I agree with GSChihuahua - it's not that there aren't enough rescues. It's that there are too many dumb owners out there who discard dogs and other animals when they don't feel like keeping them anymore.

GSC - I just thought I'd let you know that I tagged you - if you're interested.

Hi Stumpy
It's always good to hear from you. I like the blue one too. That one is actually very special to my mom. Her last dog Snoopie wore that one all the time and he passed on over a year ago. but it has a special meaning and I have been fortunate to wear it.
