I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love.

For me they are the role model for being alive.

Stumpy and Fenway's surprise

Where are we going? Where are you taking us?

We're here! Beautiful Lake Mead!

Stumpy and Fenway made a new friend, immediately! Sky, a beautiful plott hound girl, was recently adopted from a local shelter.

This was Sky's second trip to the lake and although she got her feet wet, her owner said she didn't want to swim. I told him a little friendly competition would probably fix that.

And it did. Sky was swimming like a champ, in no time.

OK, you two! I want you to swim and chase balls until you can't move!

And they did!

Back in the 80's Lake Mead was my playground. Once the weather warmed up we were out here all the time. You could pull your vehicle up to the water's edge and set up camp. Back in the day, the water came up almost to the road pictured below.

In this picture you can see the white water line on the rocks. 20 years ago, just the tops of those rocks were visible.

Are you familiar with the Federal government's America the Beautiful - National Parks and Federal Recreational Lands Pass? The pass, for a nominal fee (and in some cases free) grants you access, at no charge, to national parks, national forests and land under the jurisdiction of the Army Corps of Engineers. Discounts for other services are offered, too.

More information, history, geography, etc., about lake Mead can be found here.

What an immensely fun day for you and Fenway!!! Looks like you both taught Sky very well. And Sky is one beautiful dog - we have never heard of that breed before.

Happy Cinco de Mayo to you.

Oh, what a Most Terrific surprise! AND you all gots to meet a new furend. She has some of the most beautifulest furs I ever saw. But I think you're ALL ker-azy for going in the waters after a ball. Now, maybe if someone had thrown cheese in there...

Looks like a super outing! But what happened to all the water?! Lack of snow melt due to disappearing mountain snow & glaciers? Always a good idea to frolic every chance you get; you never know when you'll get another.

What a great time you two had and made a new friend. Sounds you all had a blast. Pretty lake, amazing how much things change over time.

Brenda, the water was PERFECT!

OP Pack, Plotthounds are fairly common ins the south and Sky was a quck study!

Mayziegal, Sky was stunning! hmmmm...If you come to visit we'll pack some cheese to take to the lake!

Rottrover, dogs could teach the world, if only the beans would listen.

Kari, That's a plan, for sure! do you camp?

Jed and Abby, back in the early 90's (I think) the government released to much water via Hoover Dam and the lake never recovered, for starters.

24 Paws, the lake is amazing even in it's current state. It's one of the cleanest bodies of water in the world!
