Many thanks to Sandra, who delights me with her horses, dogs, prose, photography, gardens, culinary talents, insight and so much more at This & That for sharing Alfy's story.
I haven't even been able to work with Alf in the kennel since he ate the floor. For one, it's too hot (for me) to go anywhere to leave him in the kennel. And secondly, we are waiting for the new, inedible METAL pan to arrive from dog.com. Then we can go back to crate training.
We work on sit, in the mornings and evenings. He's getting better, but he's pure Berner in the way he does it. S.L.O.W.
Sometimes he's right on it!
Other times, not so much.
After almost two weeks of working to get him in the new truck, he finally decided it wasn't going to eat him.
He wants to get in, get his hot dog or cheese and get right out again.
He's absolutely and totally apathetic with regard to the battle I wage daily, on his behalf.
Lest you think Mr.B is entirely to blame, Stumpy also contributes to the war effort.
The Berner (now known as Alphonso Bernard Jacob Scout Billy Bob Berner)is/was a semi-feral dog trying to survive in the Mohave Desert. If you're a new visitor to our blog, the Berner's story can be read in the posts listed below, in chronological order. Updates are posted on Saturday.
If you are interested in adopting this handsome boy please refer to my sidebar and check out Petfinder's "New Dog Adopter's" Pledge. This is the home Alfy deserves. He will come to you house broken, crate trained, vet checked, neutered, up to date on his vaccinations and micro-chipped. Alfy will bring his crate, his bed, favorite toys and some food with him. Vet references will be required. A home-check is a possibility. Because of his wander lust a fenced yard is probably necessary. Distance may not be a problem. I'll be traveling east in the not too distant future. I have also had offers for transport help, when the time comes.

Oh, you artistic girlie, you! I am dazzled with the two dogs you built out of waste fur. I get enough from Stella to build a dog a day (but I have never tried your skilled technique!)
Good luck on finding Alfy a home. He is SUCH a handsome guy.
Cheers and hugs,
Jo and Stella

What a cute furpuppy you made there! We can send you lots more if you want to start a business:)
Good for the Berner with all his accomplishments. Almost time for him to go for a ride in that new truck.
Woos - Phantom, Thunder, and Ciara
Jo, it's just one fur puupy (thank goodness)
Sanne, I almost sent you your own furpuupy in a birthday card for El'bow, but i couldn't get it just right.
Heelers, thankfully, that's not a days worth of fur. It's a week. I gave up on the daily battle.
OP Pack, um...I appreciate your generous offer@ thanks but n thanks! Ssssh...don't tell Alfy where he's going!
Berner can get the sweetest happiest look on his face, can't he? Man, I smile at his attempt to please. And the furpuppy? That is great! We vacuum everyday... big piles collect in the corner. Four furry dogs, one sturdy vacuum!
Haha! You made a whole new doggie out of the old doggie furs! What are you going to name it?
When I first got adopted, I would get in the truck just fine but then I was skeered to get out. So mom and dad went through LOTS of hot dogs to help me with that and now I LUVS to get out of the truck! Hot dogs and cheese are really good medicine, that's for sure.

Mayzie
Love the lawn dog. :)
I was hoping to hear that a certain someone was on his way. And not hoping too, if you know what I mean...
Hi Alfy, it looks too freakin' hot there! Aren't you a Swiss Alps dog? Glad you have AC.
We like your fur art...very festive!
Wyatt
You've made reality of the saying "I could make a whole new dog from all of that hair!"
You guys are doing great! He is doing so well and will only continue to blossom under your care.
Did I miss something? Ate the floorpan? When was this?
We can send hair in many diferent colors, if you want more.
Brenda, the shop vac is my friend, but I sweep before I vacuum.
Mayzie, hotdogs and cheese are how we got Alf this far!
LWD, I knw EXACTLY what you mean. gotta get him in the truck to the vets before he can go anywhere.

That's a mighty cute pup! I have one of those myself.
I'm so happy to see him getting in the truck. Gets him one step closer to brain surgery.
Sandra, I've got my heart set on that brain surgery on July 17. Keep your fingers crossed!
