I think dogs are the most amazing creatures; they give unconditional love.

For me they are the role model for being alive.

This is REALLY important!!!

Christina, who blogs at Soul Aperture is asking for participation from those who would like to help the people of Haiti.

Christina's plan is simple. Her family will donate a dollar to Doctors Without Borders to aid in Haiti's recovery for each participant who blogs about the joys of the simple things in life and leave a link in her comment section.

Without further ado here are a few of mine...

Of course, it should go without saying, waking up in the morning with my first cup of coffee and my blog list; among them, Sandra's blog, where I discovered Christina's proposal.

My son, family and friends.

a cuppa, someone elses cooking and hot spiced cider.

the moon, rainbows and falling stars

camping, waking up on the beach or in the woods.

The beach, trees and lilies.

horses wandering through my yard and 'yotes yippin'

moonlit nights

morning dew on petals and leaves, hummingbirds and butterflies

Owls in flight, hawks soaring

The dark of night and solitude.

hugs, a shared giggle and the smiles of children

Random acts of kindness and sharing.

People working together.

Thanks, Christina for makining it so easy and fun to help a little!

It's raining in dirtville

That's fine by me, now that I don't live on the east coast I love a rainy day. Stumpy, however, does not. Although we have already been for a walk this morning and played fetch in between showers, she is B.O.R.E.D. I filled her kong with peanut butter(7 minutes of fun)Thrown her toys and down the hall, multiple times. Now we have loaded another hollow toy with treats.

I have made a couple of apple crisps, to share.

I've cleaned some, done laundry, written some letters, and pondered doing my christmas cards. Should I send them out late or have them ready for next year? hmmmmm....

mmmmm mmmmm good! Do you want ice cream or whipped cream on yours?

In my face/space

Each night, Stumpy, the 30 pound Giant Speckled Chihuahua, climbs into my lap, attempts to sit on my head and wants to lie on top on my face. These pictures are taken from that perspective. Stumpy does NOT like the camera flashing in her face.

"GET THAT THING OUTTA MY FACE!"

"OK, you can take one picture, but don't expect any cooperation from here."

"You know, it wouldn't kill you to lit me sit on your head, or lie on top of your face."

"You win... for now... but we will fight this battle again tomorrow night, and the next night and the night after that and..."

We fight this battle every single night and have since she came home to me and became comfortable. When it first started, I didn't want to be to pushy because she was so sensative. Now, she could care less how many times I push her off my head or remove her from my face. The battle lasts anywhere from a half an hour to an hour each night, with breaks to distract her or myelf with her ball or another toy. Finally she settles in for some scritchin'

It's a domination issue, common with heelers, and why so many of them end up in shelters. Of course, it doesn't help that I can't quite get serious, giggle and laugh through out each episode. If I could get serious she might take me seriously.

I'm trying to get a picture of my giantspeckledchihuahua hat face warmer, but it ain't easy.

My "Boy" is 26 (1/8/84)!

Happy birthday, Will!
The picture below is Will's 25th birthday dinner. He was thrilled with the opera singer that sang to him in Italian!

And how the heck did that happen? I can't possibly be old enough to have a 26 year old kid!

Will and Stumpy's cuzzin, Fenway, came to visit last week. Stumpy loves Will! He rough houses with her in a way I never do. He teases her, they body slam, roll on the floor and just generally go full tilt.

As an added bonus, Fenway is Will's boy. Fenway is Stumpy's favorite dog in all the world. He can keep up with her bite for bite, as long as the day is long. He takes everything she can dish out and gives it right back and that's saying alot!

At the end of their visit Stumpy lays down and I don't see her 'til the morning!

Enjoy your day, son 'o' mine!
Love always!

PuNK'd!

You may remember a post not too long ago where Stumpy was sulking because she didn't have a pillow to lie on outside in the sun.

She is a bit of a chihuahua and her creature comforts are VERY important to her. Besides her 3 chairs, there are numerous pillows and dog beds scattered around the house so that she can keep a close watch on my every move, in comfort. If I didn't have the pillows she would be under my feet. Which of course, she is. But after an in-depth study I deduced she was only under my feet half as much if she had her own pillow close by.

Recently, I moved her deck pillow into the breezeway due to inclement weather. I leaned it up against the wall out of the way so I wouldn't trip over it.

I went outside one morning and there she is totally innocent of any wrong doing. I believe she is gloating, when she thinks I am not watching. (click the pictures for more detail)

Avoidance technique. She has this down to a science.

Sticking her tongue out at me. (you are so busted, little brat dog!)

Laughing at my feeble attempts to deny her right to comfort.

Coyote Stakeout (part 2)

A local newspaper recently stated, the local "coyotes weigh around 20-30 pounds and are found statewide, anywhere from the wilderness to inside major cities." The 'yotes Stumpy and I see, daily, appear much larger than that. I guess they could be coydogs, but they look all coyote to me. Here's one of the 30 pounders (not my picture).

I wish I had a better camera. We see one coyote, almost every night, that I swear to dog is bigger than a large German Shepherd!

We also have a mature 3 legged coyote that visits regularly. I wonder how this guy made it to maturity on 3 legs. I resist putting food out for him, because he tugs at my heart strings. He does however, help himself to the bird bath and quail food.

Stumpy makes the last check of the night, scanning the neighborhood for intruders.

All clear in front

All clear to the right

All clear to the left

Now that the neighborhood has been made safe once more, it's time to tuck in.
